Nancy Adrian

Brighton

Nancy has been the Administrative Assistant at the Washington County Extension Office for more than four years. She serves on the Washington Chamber of Commerce Tourism committee and is interested in sharing our rural heritage with visitors and promoting Washington County. Washington County Extension is acting as one of two sponsors for the project. Nancy serves as the project’s secretary and volunteer coordinator.

Nancy Butterbaugh

Washington

Nancy is an avid quilter of seven years. Her participation in the project is primarily web page design.  Her love of quilting and being able to participate in the project is rewarding for her to assist in painting, construction, publicity, and budget concerns.

Mary Chmelar
Yaro Chmelar

Washington

Mary loves public art.  Art hat surprises and pops out of nowhere-True serendipity. Mary describes barn quilts as wonderful examples of folk art that we can all enjoy.

Mary and Yaro have worked uncounted hours to assist in painting, construction and erection of blocks.  Mary's primary focus has been barn locations, barn history, and securing barns and owners. 
Yaro has worked very hard to be an avid painter, construction and volunteer who erects the quilt blocks.  No one knows how hard they work when erecting a barn quilt block. 

Jane Dallmeyer

Jane is an avid quilter who is active in County Extension efforts.

Kathy Ebert

Washington

Kathy is a 4-H leader, treasurer for the Washington Lions Club, serves on the Washington County Extension Council board, is secretary/treasurer for Immanuel Lutheran Church and has a small wallpapering and painting business. She has always had an interest in quilts and loves the idea of promoting and preserving the heritage of her native county through this project. She serves as the project’s treasurer.  Kathy works tirelessly for the success of this project.

Bill Ebert

Washington

Bill is active in numerous Washington booster club groups and area support clubs.

Bill, along with other enthusiasts, serve as volunteers who do the hardest of work - erecting the barn quilt blocks.

Rachel Fishback

Washington

Rachel owns Fishback Fotography in Washington. She is excited about the barn quilt project because it showcases the history of our agriculture's past with beautiful quilt art pieces that were made with love, dedication and hard work.  Rachel's expertise in photography will capture the images that time cannot erode - barn owners and barn quilts of the future..

Duane Hammen

Washington

Duane is a 4-H leader with an interest in historic preservations. Duane volunteers to do the hardest of work - construction, & erecting the barn quilt blocks. Often times when he might want to be farming, he takes time for volunteerism and you will see him erecting a barn quilt block.  Duane is the creator of the protective shielding most barn quilt blocks receive, so weather and birds' harshness don't spoil the block's age.

Marianne Hanshaw

Washington

Marianne is the current Chair of the Washington Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee.

Nola Kleemeyer

Brighton

Nola owns Nola's Homespun Boutique, a fabric shop in Brighton. Committed to her community, previously she organized an effort to help premature babies.

 

Terry  Mangold

West Chester

Terry is a local business owner and member of the Fair Board, among numerous other civic support efforts. He serves as the project’s co-chair.  Dr. Mangold is a busy-guy, and his spouse compliments his interest and enthusiasm.  Often, his words of guidance to the committees are instrumental to our successes.

Julie Mangold

West Chester

Julie is a civic supporter interested especially in historic issues. She serves as the project’s co-chair.
Words are hard to describe Chairperson Julie Mangold's efforts.  Meetings, coordination, overseeing each committee, and making things all successful has become Julie's role - one not taken lightly.   She works tirelessly, and serves as a great leader for the Barn Quilts of Washington County, Iowa.

Ann Moore

Washington

Ann is a Washington Chamber of Commerce staff member. The Chamber is a co-sponsor of the Barn Quilt project.

Rosemary Pacha

Brighton

Rosemary is an avid quilter and retired home economics teacher with a strong interest in historic preservation.

Gerald Pacha

Brighton

Gerald has a long history of civic support in Washington County. Gerald also does "sky - time" with Bill Ebert, Yaro Chmelar, and Duane Hammen to insure the safety and security of hanging blocks on barns or structures is perfect.

Andi Reynolds

Keota

Andi is a writer, fundraiser and quilter with a deep knowledge of quilt history. Her interest in the project is to expose as many residents and tourists as possible to the beauty of quilt blocks and Iowa’s historic barns. She chairs the project’s fundraising efforts.

Jackie Ross

Wellman

Jackie has had a lifelong interest in and appreciation for history and its remnants.  With more than 20 years’ experience in the antiques field she is a lifetime member of the Washington County Historical Society Board of Directors. Jackie's tasks include minutes' recording and participation in all levels of the Quilt Block committee.

Nic Sabatke

Washington

Nic is the Program Director/Morning Announcer on AM & FM KCII. He works on several committees for the Relay for Life of Washington County and is involved with the Washington County Hospital and Clinics Kidzfest. Interest in the Washington County community is behind his involvement with the project. Nik chairs the project’s publicity efforts.

Margaret Scott Wellman Margaret is involved in Barn Quilts Washington County because of her interest in quilting, shows, and her participation in other quilt-related activities. Margaret was instrumental in painting 2007's Barn blocks.

Rita Stogdill

Wayland

Rita, a Washington business owner, has been interested in all things quilt related for years. In addition to traveling to see quilt shows, she is past president of a local quilt club and machine quilts for others.

Juanita Troyer

Kalona

Juanita owns Willow Creek in Kalona, which features quilt fabrics, patterns, books and notions. Her interests lie in quilts and increasing tourism in the county.  Juanita has been instrumental in block selection and color-selection for barn owners in the 2007 Amish Loop.

Susan Wellington

Washington

Susan is the Executive Director of the Washington Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is acting as one of two sponsors for the project.

 

Myrna Wenger Wayland Myrna Joy Wenger especially loves antique quilts, collecting them and researching their patterns. She is a member of the Wayland Economic Development Corporation and is in the process of restoring Wayland's century-old grocery store building. Myrna is thrilled to be a part of Washington's Barn Quilt project.

Willa Wilson

Crawfordsville

Willa is a past avid quilter and past member of two quilt guilds. She is a member of the Washington County Preservation Commission with an interest in seeing the preservation of barns maintained.  Willa is an avid barn quilt block painter throughout 2007 and many blocks will have received her careful attention to painting and precision.

Wanita Zieglowsky

Wanita has been a member of the Washington County Historic Preservation Commission for ten years and is familiar with most aspects of the county’s history and historic properties.
