  Iowa Barn Quilt Project

 

The Washington County Barn Quilt Committee consists of volunteers working to encourage the placement and promotion of large painted quilt blocks, and attaching those blocks to historical farm buildings in Washington County. The committee has slated the next four years for construction, painting and raising barn quilt blocks throughout Washington County, Iowa in phases.
The committee welcomes any youth groups, service groups, or individual volunteers who find a project of this interest to be their niche.  The first four phases are explained in the webpage for tourism and we welcome you to join the committee with this endeavor.

Our Mission Statement speaks for itself and if your service group would enjoy participating, we welcome your participation in several ways.

• With supervision by at least one of our committee member, your group's volunteers would assist with unloading/loading/ plywood at designated places in or near Washington;
• With supervision, helping prime plywood, and helping apply oil-base paint on the block in designated stages;
• Helping with community events by promoting the project during event activities;
• With supervision, helping during the process of barn quilt block raising
