Gary and Kay Sheetz' farm, located at 1430 N. 12th Avenue, Washington was the site of the first barn quilt block to be unveiled in Washington County, Iowa, June 29, 2007.

The Washington Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Barn Quilts of Washington County and the Sheetz' family hosted a grand celebration with 170 people in attendance. As all were watching, the Sheetz' grandchildren pulled the veil from the block pattern Gary and Kay Sheetz had selected, Fannie's Fan.

Julie Mangold, co-chair of the Barn Quilts committee delivered a small speech, and all people present were able to see the future blocks the committee and future barn owners are working toward.

Special guests in attendance included barn quilt owners, sponsors, and the Washington Chamber's Alive After Five members. Many thanks are extended to the committee who donated beverages, snacks and desserts for the event.
